Transmission for my 68

I was talking to someone a ProGear (to rebuild the rear end) and he recommended replacing the Munci with a 5th gen transmission. Said I could pick one up at pretty much any junk yard. Told me to make sure it has the bell housing with it. I would then have it rebuilt by a shop.
I am not keeping my Camaro original/stock nor do I have a numbers matching car, so this could be an option. I wanted to know if anyone has done this or has any suggestions. Also, what are the pros/cons.

I think what you meant is a 4th gen trans.

Especially if you are getting 3.73's or 4.10's in the rear.

6th gear is awesome for gas mileage on long trips and reduces engine noise by lowering the RPM to around 1800.

All this presumes you are talking manual transmissions.

You are right, I did mean 4th Gen and I do plan to stick with a manual trans. Thanks for your input.
