I have spent a enormous amount of time researching this issue since I bought a 1970 Z-28 with a jacked 454 engine and no trim plate or protecto plate.
It appears that you can identify what the car was when it came off the production line when you have only a VIN number. The people at GM have this information and I am attempting to make contact with the correct department for this information. In todays market people are selling autos that are missed identified which can be a big problem for the seller and buyer. Just some thoughts for other Camaro owners.
